Over the past sixteen years we have seen a lot of the X-Men franchise from Fox get butchered because all they have done is take the characters from the comics and pretty much make up whatever story they want, practically ignoring the source material. Now, I have to admit the movies have been enjoyable but it is something of a travesty when you completely disregard the story just to make a buck. However, I do believe, for once, Fox has made a proper comic book movie and the punchline is they had to make it rated R for them to do it. In my professional opinion, or personal opinion (details), as a movie and comic book geek Deadpool was a HUGE success.

From the opening credits the tone of the movie was given shape. When you start it off by introducing your cast as ‘God’s Perfect Idiot’ (Ryan Reynolds), the writers as ‘The Real Heroes’, and the director as ‘An Overpaid Tool’ then you know immediately that Deadpool himself wrote the script …or at least got to the teleprompter to change a few things. Let’s face it, that is a classic Deadpool move.

Deadpool Review: No Spoilers!

I have been hearing a lot of negativity about Ryan Reynolds being cast as the Merc with the Mouth and I have to say, I have been in full support of him being Deadpool and this movie definitely put the Nay Sayers in their place. I have never been happier with a casting choice the way I am with this one. Ever since seeing him as Wade Wilson in the horrible origin story, I knew he was Deadpool. His smart-alecky remarks in that movie and undertones of a dangerous man, that is Deadpool minus the crazy. In this movie, we get the full package!

Once again, we are given another origin story. I know, it is starting to get tiresome with all these origin stories. Wouldn’t it just be easier to gloss over the origin? There are times where it would be but with a character like this we do kind of need to see where he came from. How they did it I kind of question but I do see how it would work. Anyone who is a Deadpool fan knows why he really wears the full body outfit is because of the massive amount of scar tissue that is a byproduct of his mutation. He has a healing factor like Wolverine with the side effect that his wounds still leave scars after they heal up. That is where the scar tissue comes from but with this story they say it is a cause of the experimentation that was done to him and is an indicator of the mutation. Slim but I can go with it. And just to add something more to it they throw in a love interest and a recruiter, in the form of Colossus. I am happy that they finally made him Russian but they made him CGI the entire time he was there (cheaper I guess then hiring a real actor to portray him).

But the big thing that I love about the story is that Deadpool still breaks the 4th wall. It is one of his well-known qualities. He knows he is a comic book character and now, he knows he is a movie star …oh, no! We have just stroked his ego too far! …and he has us using innuendo!!!

Deadpool and CGI Colossus

…moving on!

Rated R

Again, this is one of the reasons why I feel that for once Fox has made a proper comic book movie. Deadpool is not a character for kids. Never has been. This was a concern of mine when I heard that they would make this movie. Would they wuss him down to make him a family friendly movie? And the Gods heard the prayers of all true Deadpool fans and made it rated R for the violence, the language, and the sex. Now it is not full of sex but there is a scene in a strip club where we see a gratuitous cameo. Deadpool is not a ‘Hero’, super or otherwise. He is just a comic book character that is just completely out of his mind but for some reason we love him.

…what does that say about us?
…Who cares?!

What else can I say? I have seen this movie three times already and will probably see it again at least once more. I am very happy with how this movie turned out. I will be getting it on Blu-ray. And I will be looking forward to the sequel, which there have been reports that they have already begun shooting. Oh, and do be sure to stick around for the end credits scene. Hope you are a John Hughs fan.

****SPOILERS****Okay we all know who “Baby” is. She is this beautiful 1967 Impala that Dean drives and probably loves more than life. If you are a car person, then Baby is what dreams are made of.

Supernatural: Baby 1967 Impala

Dean is having cabin fever and will take any job no matter how small it is. So they head out on a possible case just to get out of the bunker.  We did get a great Dean quote from this episode. “Time heals all wounds Sammy, especially good time.”  I don’t know about healing all wounds but good times do help a lot.

The best thing about this series has to be the music. I don’t know about you but listening to some Classic Rock always makes me feel better, so to have a television show with, well let’s face it some hot as hell leads and Rock music has to be the best thing ever.

Imagine falling asleep with your brother on a road trip and waking up to your brother no longer being there but your father in his place. You would think you had just stepped into The Twilight Zone, which is what I imagined Sam thought when just that happened to him. In this moment though we were given another great quote this one from John Winchester himself…. “When has death stopped a Winchester?” How true is that statement? I mean come on Death tried stopping Dean so he killed him!

How in the world do they have Wi-Fi where ever they go? I can’t get a strong signal in my house but they can search for monsters on the computer in the middle of nowhere! It just isn’t fair. (and yes I did stomp my foot down like a toddler)

“God helps those who help themselves.”  Growing up southern I heard this phrase a lot. The boys should have had this figured out by now.  How are the boys going to help themselves though? Then again God hasn’t been much help to them in the past so why would he start now? You would think since people are supposed to be God’s greatest masterpiece that he would help them out more.

Who actually says “Goodnight Jerk” and “Goodnight Bitch” to each other? Well Sam and Dean of course. How else are they going to tell each other that they love one another?

Castiel watching ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, that is something that I would like to see. How fun would it be to introduce an angel to Netflix?

Do you remember a few seasons back when the FBI catches up to the boys and Lilith takes over a police station? Dean uttered a phrase that all 80’s babies love. He says “I did not shoot the deputy.” In this episode after a fight with a police officer that he has to shoot. He actually says “Turns out I did shoot the Deputy. “I love it! The only problem is; this creature they are hunting will not die.

Supernatural: Baby

Sometimes that sweet old lady down the way really isn’t a sweet old lady. Dean found that out the hard way. Why in the world would this creature need an army? I can only guess that it has something to do with the darkness. Even the monsters are scared of the darkness. This cannot be good.

This episode is great because you watch the whole thing from the view of “Baby”. Who hasn’t wondered what their car sees? Well with this episode you get to see exactly what a hunter’s car sees. It was great.
